This event is aimed at defining and understanding the notion of hub through the lens of network science, in an interactive and visual manner. The event will be in 3 parts. First I will give a talk (in French) about the history of network science, and the emergence and importance of the concept of hub. This will be directed to a lay audience, showcasing various real-world applications. Then, along with Liuba Tupikina, network scientist from Ecole Polytechnique and research fellow at CRI, we will involve the audience in a “network game” to better understand the importance of hubs in social phenomena such as information spreading. Finally, we will exhibit some network art from Roberto Toro and Katja Heuer (Pasteur Institute and CRI), capturing the essence of networks in stunning visualisations.
